About
Campaign for Safer Alternatives (CASA) is a Pan-African consumer advocacy organization promoting tobacco harm reduction, safer nicotine alternatives, and evidence-based public policies. CASA advocates for informed consumer choice, cessation education, and proportionate regulation that supports adults who want to move away from smoking. As Chairman of CASA, Joseph Magero leads advocacy efforts across Africa, engaging policymakers, supporting consumer voices, and promoting access to safer alternatives such as nicotine pouches and vaping products. His work focuses on ensuring that tobacco control policies protect public health while recognizing the needs and experiences of adult smokers seeking alternatives.
Mission
To advance tobacco harm reduction across Africa by promoting evidence-based cessation education, access to safer nicotine alternatives, consumer choice, and proportionate public policies that protect public health, empower adults who smoke, and prevent youth nicotine use.
