Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 March 2026

THR Global respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, how long we keep it, and what choices and rights you have.

1. Who we are

THR Global is a public-interest platform focused on tobacco harm reduction, lived-experience testimonials, research awareness, and advocacy. In this policy, “THR Global”, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to the operators of this website.

2. What information we collect

Depending on how you use the platform, we may collect:

  • name and surname
  • email address
  • country, city, and related location details you provide
  • approximate map coordinates connected to a submission
  • testimonial content and any uploaded image
  • smoking and tobacco harm reduction related information you choose to provide, such as smoking history, quit attempts, product category, flavour category, and years smoke-free
  • consent choices and communication preferences
  • technical data such as IP-related request metadata, browser, and security logs where necessary for abuse prevention and platform security

3. Special note about sensitive or high-risk information

Some submissions may include information about health-related behaviour, nicotine use, smoking history, or similar personal experiences. We ask that you only provide information you are comfortable sharing and that is relevant to your submission.

4. How we collect information

  • when you submit a testimonial
  • when you contact us
  • when you request an update to an existing testimonial
  • when you subscribe to updates or communications
  • through basic technical and security processes on the site

5. Why we use your information

We use personal information to:

  • review, moderate, and publish testimonials
  • display testimonials on the website and map
  • contact you about your submission or update request
  • send country-specific updates where you have opted in
  • maintain platform integrity, security, and fraud prevention
  • improve the website, content, and user experience
  • comply with legal obligations

6. Lawful basis for processing

Where required by applicable law, we rely primarily on your consent for the collection, review, publication, and communication uses described on this platform. In some cases, we may also rely on our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the site, provided those interests do not override your rights and freedoms.

7. Publication of testimonials

If you submit a testimonial for publication, we may display some of the information you provide publicly, depending on your choices and the way the site is configured. This may include your story, country, city, age or age range, product category, and other contextual details related to your submission.

Your email address is used for administration, verification, and contact purposes and is not intended for public display.

If you choose an anonymous or pseudonymous display option, we will aim to present your public testimonial without showing your direct identity in the public-facing story view.

8. Sharing of information

We do not sell personal information. We may share information with:

  • trusted service providers that help us operate the platform
  • hosting, database, email, storage, and security providers
  • professional advisers where required
  • regulators, authorities, or courts where legally required

9. International use

THR Global is intended for an international audience. Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, depending on where our service providers host infrastructure or where the platform operators administer the service.

10. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the platform, maintain published records, handle moderation, communicate with submitters, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the integrity of the service.

Where a deletion request is valid and no overriding legal or operational reason requires retention, we will delete or de-identify the relevant information within a reasonable period.

11. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or data portability.

To exercise a rights request, contact us at admin@thrglobal.org.

12. Children

This platform is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to submit a testimonial or provide personal information through the platform. We do not knowingly solicit submissions from children.

13. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration, or disclosure. However, no online service can guarantee absolute security.

14. Cookies and similar technologies

We may use essential cookies and similar technologies required for security, session handling, and core site functionality. If we add analytics or other non-essential technologies, this policy and our Cookie Policy may be updated accordingly.

15. Contact and complaints

For privacy questions, corrections, or deletion requests, contact admin@thrglobal.org.

If you are in South Africa, you may also have the right to raise a complaint with the Information Regulator. If you are in the UK or EU, you may also have the right to contact your relevant supervisory authority.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will always appear on this page with the revised effective date.
